Everyone is welcome, though we think the subject will appeal to people aged 12 and over. Our tours are conducted at a comfortable pace primarily along the streets of the Ottawa downtown core (with some exceptions - see the Experimental Farm tour, for instance).
Our guides are specialists in their fields, or are trained facilitators passionate about the subject matter.
We use Eventbrite for our large-size tours and email for our private and customized tours. You can pay through Paypal or major credit cards. Please note that Ottawa (de)tours is a seasonal business operating April/May to October/November each year.
Tickets start at $15/person for our large size monthly tours. We also offer small size private tours that start at $50/person.
We require anyone interested in taking a tour to book ahead of time (don't show up at the meeting place unannounced unless you've spoken to one our staff or guides and they are expecting you).
You don’t have to print your ticket. If you have a confirmed email from us, that is sufficient - your tour guide will have had your name given to them in advance and will wait for you.
In the event you can't attend your already-booked tour, we ask you to let us know as soon as you know. Cancellations received 48 or more hours from the start of the tour will be allowed to re-book. Cancellations received within 48 hours or less will be charged 50% of the cost of the tickets (the remaining 50% could be refunded in cash or used towards re-booking).
All (de)tours will take place as scheduled. We reserve the right to reschedule or cancel tours in the event of extreme conditions at our own discretion. Cancellation will be avoided whenever possible, however should a tour be rescheduled or cancelled, we will notify you via email and/or phone at the earliest possible moment. When we cancel a tour, we will absolutely refund your purchase in full.
Comfortable walking shoes are always good to have. Be sure to check the weather forecast and plan accordingly, as all tours are mostly outside. Sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses are especially useful during our summer months. Our tours will run rain or shine, unless the weather is too extreme. In case of light rain, bring a raincoat, poncho, or umbrella if the forecast suggests it.
We do not provide food ourselves. Some of our tours have a facilitated discussion component, which usually takes place in a restaurant or eatery. What you order there is at your discretion.
Absolutely. Depending on some of our start times, we encourage you to bring snacks, as walking around the city may increase your appetite.
Yes. All of our tours have a designated bathroom break about halfway through each tour.
Absolutely, we would love the opportunity to interact with your group. Let us know what you have in mind at firstname.lastname@example.org
